Asphalt Repair

Asphalt repair is performed to correct isolated issues in the driveway without replacing the entire surface.

Potholes, low spots, sinking near the garage, and cracked areas are common candidates for repair.

Repair Process

Lay out and mark all areas of repair.
Cut and square the surface to create clean, vertical edges.
Remove damaged asphalt and haul away material. Old asphalt is recycled.
Install 21A stone as needed and compact. This is determined after removal.
Apply a tack coat to all vertical edges.
Install new SM 9.5A VDOT-approved asphalt at the same grade as adjoining pavement.
Roll and compact to a uniform finish.

When Small Repairs May Not Be Recommended

Repairs on small driveways under 100 square yards are not always the most effective long-term solution.

Cost inefficiency. Mobilizing equipment, materials, and crew costs are similar regardless of job size, making smaller repairs more expensive per square yard.
Appearance differences. New asphalt will not match the existing surface and may appear patchy over time.
Short-term solution. Small repairs can be temporary fixes and may require additional work in the future.
Equipment limitations. Larger paving machines are designed for wider areas and provide a more consistent, uniform finish.
